Nassau Woman Resisted Arrest, Injured Officer: Police

Police say the woman was recognized from a mugshot poster they released, but fought back when they tried to arrest her.

(Nassau County Police Department)

A woman with an open warrant fought officers, injuring one of them, when they tried to arrest her Thursday morning, police said.

According to police, officers responded to the La Quinta Motel, located at 821 Stewart Ave. in East Garden City, at 9:15 a.m. for a disturbance. When they arrived, the officers were told that a woman staying at the hotel was recognized from her mugshot that the police posted on Facebook, police said, and she was identified as April Summers, 31, and was living in the hotel. Summers had an open warrant for her arrest for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The officers tried to place her under arrest, but Summers refused to follow the officers' commands and violently resisted, police say. She was eventually subdued and arrested.
