New Map Shows Residents Who Manages Their Roads
Hempstead Town created the interactive map to help residents find out who to call when they have issues with roadways.

The Town of Hempstead unveiled a new interactive map on Thursday that will allow residents to determine who they should call when they have a problem on a roadway.
The map lists which municipalities are in charge of which roads in the area. It will help residents determine which government they should call witch questions about roads and maintenance.
The town said that it receives thousands of calls each year about street issues, but often times has to tell residents to call another municipality if the problem is happening on a road the town is not responsible for. The town was able to build the map thanks to a shared services agreement with Nassau County.

Supervisor Laura Gillen said that about 40 percent of residents who call the town about problems on roads are re-routed to a different branch of the government. The hope is that, by accessing this new map, residents will be able to save themselves time and frustration by knowing who to call.
"Having passable streets that emergency vehicles can navigate on during emergency events is of the utmost importance, and our Town residents are on the front lines of informing us whenever there is a problem," Gillen said.
