Officer Helps Save Injured Hawk: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending July 22.
- Detectives are investigating an incident that occurred on July 16 of a man, posing as a computer programmer fixing a computer, advising a resident by phone to buy Google Money cards and supply him with their codes to fix an error. It was later determined to be a scam. Total loss exceeds $10,000.
- Officers responded to Whitehall Boulevard for a report of a kitten stuck in the engine compartment of a vehicle on July 16. Residents were able to use food to lure the kitten safely from the vehicle.
- Officers were assigned to traffic safety details for a protest march that occurred on Franklin Avenue on July 16.
- Officers investigated a report of a white pick-up truck leaving the scene after sideswiping and damaging another vehicle on Clinton Road on July 17.
- A wallet containing money and credit cards was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the Cherry Valley Country Club on July 17.
- Money was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Clinton Road driveway on July 18.
- A handbag, containing money and a credit card, was reported stolen from inside the Garden City Hotel on July 18.
- Officers investigated a report of a black vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging another vehicle parked in Field 5 on July 18.
- A vehicle was reported stolen from a Wetherill Road driveway on July 19. The owner's vehicle locator app traced the vehicle to a location in Newark. Upon being notified, Newark Police Officers responded to the area indicated on the locator app and found the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
- Upon investigation of a two-vehicle property damage crash on Meadow Street on July 19, officers arrested one of the drivers, a 49-year-old man from Hempstead, for DWI.
- An officer responded to Prospect Street for a report of an injured hawk on July 19. The Wildlife in Need Rescue and Rehabilitation Agency was notified and responded to the scene and removed the hawk.
- Loose change and an Empire Pass were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on St. James Street South on July 20.
- A package delivered to a Sackville Road residence was reported stolen on July 20.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Clinton Road and Brook Street on July 20, a 21-year-old man was charged with driving with a suspended license and defective brake lights.
- Officers responded to a report of a man fleeing CVS after the theft of two electric razors on July 21. Officers apprehended the thief, a 29-year-old man, in Parking Field 8. He was found to be in possession of the two razors as well as assorted make-up items from the store. He was charged with grand larceny.
- A 22-year-old woman was charged with driving on Franklin Avenue with a suspended registration and unregistered operation on July 21.
