Pasquale's Warriors: Supporting Fran D'Alessandro in The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Man/Woman of the Year Campaign

Fran accepted this honor and challenge in memory of her father, Pasquale Lubrano. We are working together to raise as much as possible in a 10-week period. Every dollar we raise counts as one vote and the candidate who gets the most votes/raises the most money is named the Man or Woman of the Year.

“As many of you know, my Dad was diagnosed with Myelo Dysplastic Syndrome (a blood cancer) in 1992 and after a brave fight on February 26,2006 he lost his battle. During the 14 years of struggling with the disease, he had many surgeries, hospital stays, blood and platelet transfusions and too numerous to count trips to the Urgent Care Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital. While as a daughter it was heart-wrenching to watch my Dad suffer, as a mother I was heart-broken to see all the children that would come into urgent care. My Dad’s original prognosis was 6 months, but we were fortunate to have him in our lives for 14 years after his diagnosis because of drugs in clinical trials. Because someone raised money to fund these clinical trials his 8 grandchildren were blessed to know a wonderful grandfather. My hope is to fund further research to pay it forward for other patients so they too can benefit from new research and have more time with their families.” - Fran D’Alessandro

Many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients, but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day.

We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers!
