'Proud Of Vital Service': Nassau Bus Driver Marks 50th Anniversary
Brian Wharton has been behind the wheel since 1973.

GARDEN CITY, NY — When Brian Wharton started as a Nassau County bus driver, America was in the throes of Watergate. Fast forward 50 years, and he's still part of the company, now NICE Bus.
His first route was from Hempstead to Glen Cove in 1973 for Nassau County Bus.
"The job can be challenging at times, but if you remain calm and steady you can handle anything thrown your way," Wharton said.

Wharton, who grew up in Hicksville, was recently given a cake to celebrate the golden anniversary.
He kept logging years on the road as the Nassau County's Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority (MSBA) became NICE Bus a decade ago.

NICE Chief Operating Officer Jason Mazzara noted: "Brian is not only an exceptional employee and teammate...he is also a friend. When I became an operator, Brian was there to answer questions and give me advice whenever needed."
Wharton added: "I am proud to be part of a vital service that offers many of our county’s residents the ability to get to work, school, medical appointments or stores on a daily basis."
