Restaurant Worker Embezzled $22,000: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Aug. 19.
- Lord & Taylor security reported on Aug. 12 that a woman stole nine designer handbags for a total loss of $1,800.
- Officers and firefighters responded to the Presbyterian Church for a minor electrical fire on Aug. 12.
- A vehicle was stopped for aggressive driving violations on Franklin Avenue on Aug. 13, resulting in the arrest of a 43-year-old woman from Woodbury for driving while impaired by drugs, excessive speed, unsafe lane usage and possession of marijuana.
- Upon investigation with a local bank on Aug. 13, Garden City detectives arrested a 39-year-old man from Garden City for cashing two fraudulent checks totaling $8,800. He was charged with two counts of grand larceny and two counts of possession of a forged instrument.
- A license plate was reported missing from a vehicle parked at the Marine base on Aug. 14.
- A 55-year-old driver was charged with driving on Meadow Street with a suspended license and passing a stop sign on Aug. 14.
- Two vehicles were reportedly rummaged through while parked in Parking Field 7N on Aug. 15. No loss reported from either vehicle.
- Officers investigated a report of an unknown vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle parked on 9th Street on Aug. 15.
- As a result of a traffic investigation on Franklin Avenue on Aug. 15, a 22-year-old driver was charged with driving with a revoked registration status as well as unregistered operation.
- Officers and firefighters responded to a home on Aug. 15 where high carbon monoxide fumes were detected. Firefighters determined a heater was the cause of the fumes and rendered the area safe until repair crews could respond.
- A roadway crosswalk sign on 7th Street was found damaged by unknown means on Aug. 15.
- A resident report on Aug. 15 that someone attempted to file unauthorized loan applications using his identity. The loans were not finalized and were cancelled.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Clinton Road on Aug. 16, a 28-year-old driver was charged with driving with suspended license privileges and unlicensed operation.
- Upon investigation on Aug. 16, Garden City detectives arrested a 30-year-old woman from New Hyde Park, who, as an employee of a Garden City restaurant, altered the check amounts on several of her paychecks and then cashed them for an excess of $22,200. She was charged with seven counts of possession of a forged instrument and grand larceny.
- Officers responded to St Paul’s for a report of subjects inside the fenced in area on Aug. 17. Upon investigation, officers saw two subjects exiting the building. The subjects, a 23-year-old man from East Meadow and a 24-year-old man from Bellmore, were arrested for criminal trespassing.
- Upon investigation of a license plate reader notification on Aug. 17, a 65-year-old driver was charged with driving on Cherry Valley Avenue with a suspended registration and unregistered operation.
- As a result of a traffic investigation on Stewart Avenue and Hampton Road on Aug. 17, a 24-year-old driver was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
- On Aug. 18, upon investigation of a suspicious person on Franklin Avenue in relation to a Santander Bank ATM theft scam occurring throughout Long Island and New York City, officers arrested a 19-year-old man from Queens for possession of a loaded firearm and numerous forged checks. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and three counts of possession of a forged instrument.
- A Westbury company was charged with the operation of a large dump truck on Cherry Valley Avenue while 34,000 pounds overweight on Aug. 18.
- On Aug. 18, a vehicle was stopped on Old Country Road for aggressive driving violations, resulting in the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Hauppauge for driving with a revoked license due to a prior DWI, excessive speed and improper signaling.
- A 40-year-old driver was charged with driving on Franklin Avenue with a suspended license and driving while on a handheld electronic device.
