Roosevelt High School Girls Receive 5,200 Dollar Scholarship to Study Abroad

Roosevelt, N.Y. (March 31, 2017) – Two girls at Roosevelt High School will be traveling to Europe in July as recipients of the prestigious Global Navigator Scholarship. Two sisters, eleventh grade student Veronica Arriaza and tenth grade student Vanessa Arriaza, will be the first girls in the District to be awarded the scholarship.

“Global fluency is such an integral part of today’s educational landscape, and we’re pleased to support Roosevelt School District students as they immerse themselves in other cultures,” said Roosevelt School District Superintendent Ms. Marnie Hazelton. “The Arriaza sisters are the first female students from the District to receive this award, and we look forward to their progress as they embark on this profound educational opportunity.”

Each year, the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) High School Summer Abroad Program awards the Global Navigator Scholarship to outstanding students who demonstrate academic excellence, motivation and positivity. The Arriaza sisters will receive 5,200 dollars to participate in a life-changing four-week educational experience studying language and culture in Berlin, Germany. The total cost of the program is 5,700. During their course of study the students will acquire the skills necessary to navigate foreign languages, connect with other cultures and impact global issues in a positive manner.
