Sam Whitney Named Daktronics All-Region

Garden City, N.Y. – Junior goalkeeper Sam Whitney was one of 28 student-athletes to be named to the Daktronics Women's Soccer All-Region teams as it was announced earlier this afternoon. This is the first such award for the West Islip, N.Y. native as she earned a spot on the Second-Team.

Whitney can now add Second-Team All-Region to her stable of awards. Earlier this year, she was named to the Northeast-10 First-Team All-Conference along with being named the Goalkeeper of the Year. Last year, she earned All-Rookie and Second-Team All-Conference kudos.

As Adelphi's mainstay in net, she logged 1950:16 minutes in goal, allowed just 16 goals for a .74 goals against average and made 97 saves for a .858 saves percentage. Additionally, she chalked up a 14-3-4 overall record which included six shutouts.

A vital part of Adelphi's success this year was due in part to Whitney's goalkeeping talents. The Panthers posted a 9-1-4 NE-10 record and made it to the Conference Championship game for the second straight year and were once again crowned as runners up. They made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007 and earned their first NCAA win since 2004 by way of a 5-0 defeat of Mercy. They ended their season with an appearance in the East Region semifinal to St. Rose.
