Nassau Man Charged In Shootout With Police
Police say the man fired on officers in Roosevelt Tuesday night and fled. He's now facing multiple counts of attempted murder.

UPDATE: Nassau County police have arrested and charged a man for the shootout with Hempstead police officers.
Christopher Anderson, 25, of West Fulton Avenue, Roosevelt, was arrested in connection with the shootout.
Anderson is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder and second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today.

ORIGINAL STORY: ROOSEVELT, NY — A shootout between police officers and armed men erupted in the streets of Roosevelt Tuesday night. Police are now asking anyone with information to come forward.
According to Nassau County police, Hempstead Police Department officers tried to stop a car at the Valero gas station at Greenwich Street and Jerusalem Avenue in Hempstead at 8:14 p.m. Police say the driver fled the scene, and the officers pursued.

After more than 1.5 miles, the driver of the car stopped on East Pennywood Avenue, near the intersection of Nassau Road, in Roosevelt, police said. The occupants, armed with guns, got out of the car and fired multiple shots at the officers while fleeing on foot, police say. The police officers returned fire.
No one was injured in the shootout, but the suspects managed to escape. The investigation is ongoing.
