STEM On Wheels: Local Museum And National Grid Partner To Bring Learning To Children

GARDEN CITY, NY — STEM learning has taken off in recent years, and National Grid, BioBus, and the Long Island Children's Museum came together to expand access to hands-on STEM learning.

To help provide access to STEM learning for children and families on LI, National Grid and LICM invested in a three-year grant, sponsorship of Engineering Week, and the launch of an all-electric National Grid-sponsored BioBus. National Grid and the LICM have partnered for more than 15 years.

There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the LICM in Garden City on Tuesday morning, launching the BioBus.

This BioBus is an all-electric mobile science laboratory that has microscopes and interactive tools, essentially serving as a traveling STEM learning center. The BioBus' goal is to bring hands-on STEM learning to children across Long Island.

National Grid sponsored Engineering Week, which is taking place during students' February Week – this week. The week-long event is all about teaching children problem-solving and collaboration skills, while being able to create through engineering and play. They will use sustainable materials and grow a "green" city sculpture – the "ultimate Emerald City."
