Teens Attacked Man In Road Rage Incident: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Nov. 3.
Oct. 27
- Detectives arrested an 18-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman for assault. During a road rage incident that occurred on Oct. 20, the two punched and kicked a 60-year-old man several times, resulting in cuts and bruises to his head and face as well as a fractured back.

- A truck inspection was conducted on Clinton Road. Eight vehicles were inspected with three being placed out of service. In addition, 39 tickets were issued for various traffic safety violations, including one unsecured load, three hazmat violations and one excessive speed violation.
- Officers investigated a report of a box truck leaving the scene after colliding with a NICE Bus on Franklin Avenue. There were no reported injuries.
Oct. 29
- A power washer was reported stolen from the rear yard of a Hamilton Place home.
- Weather conditions resulted in two traffic light malfunctions on Cathedral Avenue and a large fallen tree limb on 11th Street.

- Police Headquarters received a phone call at 6 a.m. from an alert resident, who saw a person exit a pick-up truck on Heath Place and then enter a vehicle parked in a driveway. As the first officer approached the area, he saw a vehicle passing him. He checked the plate of the vehicle and determined the vehicle belonged to a Heath Place residence. The officer immediately checked with the homeowner and determined the vehicle was stolen. The officer then broadcast this information over his radio and another officer located the vehicle in Parking Field 9E. The driver of the stolen vehicle, a 22-year-old man, was placed under arrest. It was also determined that he stole the pick-up truck earlier in the morning in Mineola and a vehicle and $5,000 worth of tools from a Mineola location on Oct. 19. He was charged with three counts of grand larceny of auto, two counts of unnecessary use of an auto, and grand larceny.
Oct. 31
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Old Country Road, a 35-year-old man was arrested for possession of a forged temporary Vermont registration, improper plates, unlicensed operation and unregistered vehicle.
- Officers investigated a report of a youth removing a holiday decoration from a Hampton Road lawn and damaging it.
- Detectives are investigating an identity theft report after the IRS advised a resident that someone had filed an unauthorized tax return using his personal information.
- Upon investigation, a 57-year-old driver was charged with driving a truck on Old Country Road with seven license suspensions as well as failure to display required U.S. DOT identification numbers and several equipment violations.
Nov. 1
- Officers arrested a 29-year-old man on Old Country Road for DWI and driving on the wrong side of center lane markings.
- Officers responded to a report of an accident on County Seat Drive where a vehicle left the scene after striking the back of another vehicle, resulting in the four passengers receiving minor injuries. Upon investigation, the officers arrested a 29-year-old man for leaving the scene of an accident.
Nov. 2
- As a result of high winds, police and fire department personnel responded to scattered power outages, hazardous conditions, traffic light malfunctions, as well as a car fire and a power line fire.
- Firefighters assisted a resident with a smoke condition caused by a defective electrical outlet.
- A truck inspection was conducted on New Hyde Park Road. Ten vehicles were inspected with five being placed out of service. In addition, 58 tickets were issued for various traffic safety violations, including five unsecured loads, four hazmat violations and three overweight violations.
Nov. 3
- Officers were able to free an infant who was accidentally locked inside a vehicle.
- Officers were assigned to monitor nine polling locations throughout the village.
- A 20-year-old driver was charged with driving on Rockaway Avenue with seven license suspensions as well as passing a Stop sign, unregistered vehicle, and uninsured operation.
Pedestrian Safety Detail
A Pedestrian Safety Detail conducted on 7th Street on Oct. 26, 28 and 30 with the following results:
- 11 tickets for illegal U-turns
- 2 tickets for failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk
- 5 tickets for miscellaneous violations
- 1 ticket for a suspended registration
In addition, 34 Operation Safe Pedestrian tip-cards were issued advising people of the dangers of not utilizing crosswalks when crossing the street.
