Three Arrested For Mugging A Man At Gunpoint: Nassau Police

Police say the man was punched and knocked to the ground before he managed to get away.

Nassau police arrested three people from Hempstead for mugging a man in Uniondale at gunpoint.

According to police, a 24-year-old man was confronted by three people on Amsterdam Avenue and Newton Avenue at 10 p.m. on Monday, May 21. Police say Craig Blackwood, 19, of Summer Avenue, pulled out a black handgun and demand the man hand over his money. When the man refused, police say Blackwood punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground. Police say Blackwood, along with this two partners — Tiyana Oates, 19, of Yale Place, and Jaleesa Spurgeon, 16, of Moore Avenue — managed to steal the man's iPhone. The man managed to get away and call the police.

Later that day, at 10:45 p.m., Oates and Spurgeon were placed under arrest while driving on Northern Boulevard in Uniondale. Police say they found a black hand gun and the man's iPhone in the car. They were both charged with three counts of second-degree robbery, and were arraigned on May 22 at First District Court in Hempstead.
