Track and Field Get Back to Action at NYC Gotham Cup

New York, N.Y. – The men's and women's track and field teams resumed their indoor campaign with the first meet of the 2014 calendar year at the NYC Gotham Cup held at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City. The women were paced behind 12 top-20 finishes and five top-10 marks while the men registered 12 top-35 marks.
 
Leading the way for the women's team was junior Angela Mongitore who registered a fourth place finish in the 400m dash. Her time of 56.80 is an indoor personal best and an improvement on her NCAA provisional mark. Teammate Cassandra Jean finished sixth in the same event with a time of 59.03; a personal best. She also earned 18th in the 60m dash with a time of 8.01 seconds.
 
In the middle distance events, Elizabeth Eickelberg posted a personal best over 800m. She placed fifth en route to a time of 2:20.15 which was just shy of an NCAA provisional mark. Larissa Melendez performed well in the 1,000m run with a time of 3:13.78 to earn 15th place.
 
In the 60H Mary Camarano posted the fifth fastest qualifying time with a 9.31 clocking and then turned in a fourth place finish in the finals, improving her time to 9.24. Casey Hasher garnered a top-20 finish in the same event with a time or 10.01 for 17th place.
 
In the jumps, Kelly Clifford performed well, matching her indoor best in the high jump with a leap of 1.60m, good enough for ninth place. She also placed 13th in the triple jump after registering a mark of 10.30m. Alanna Locast posted a 12th place finish in the long jump with a jump of 5.13m while Kristina Romano earned 15th in the pole vault with a height of 2.80m.
 
The 4x8 relay comprised of Eickelberg, Taylor Velez, Cecelia Capozzoli and Nicole Elarde combined to place fifth with a time of 10:47.
 
On the men's side, Tyvon Foster posted the best finish for the Panthers after earning 20th in the weight throw with a heave of 8.16m. Teammates Travis Mielko and Edward Papa posted 24th and 33rd finishes respectively in the shot put with marks of 11.93m and 9.28m.
 
Anthony Seara posted the Panther's best time of the meet in the 800m after crossing the line in 2:04.04, good enough for 23rd. Ryan Healy took 21st in the mile after clocking in at 4:30.78 while teammate Chris Reilly was four seconds behind in the same event. Angel Ortega and Nick Filippazzo finished one step apart in the 1k. Ortega turned in a time of 2:42.76 for 32nd while Filippazzo was right behind in 2:43.01. The Panther's Justin Macari traversed the 3,000m foot race in 9:19, a personal best and checked in at 30th overall.
 
Brandon Joachim's leap of 11.90m in the triple jump earned 26th place while Eric Macaluso's 6.06m mark in the long jump was good enough for 31st.
 
The 4x8 relay comprised of Healy, Daniel Morely, Jacob Moore and Reilly combined to place third with a time of 8:07.42. Meanwhile, the DMR with Ortega, Seara, Connor Dolan and Filippazzo placed eighth in 11:01.

The track and field teams return to action on Friday, January 17 when they head back to the Armory to compete in the Albany Great Dane Classic.
