Trojans Stay Undefeated in Win Over Carey

Running back Mark Ellis helps Trojans explode in the second half to beat Carey, 35-8, in conference rivalry game.

The first half of Saturday's game between the Trojans and the Carey Seahawks was a tight one.

Both teams got on the board in the first and second quarters as Garden City took a 14-8 lead into the half.

But Trojans running back Mark Ellis came out with his engine revving in the third quarter, scoring two rushing touchdowns on runs of 65 and 18 yards to blow the game open.

Ellis had three touchdowns and 124 total yards in the game.

Senior linebacker Dan Savage intercepted a pass from quarterback Mike LoCicero in the fourth quarter and ran it back 35 yards for a touchdown to ice the game and give the Trojans the 35-8 victory. It was Savage's second interception in the game.

"We were able to get our scoring going in the second half," said head coach Tom Flatley. "I thought our lines held up both ways throughout the game and we were able to pressure the passer and got some good hits on their quarterback."

The Seahawks got their only touchdown in the second quarter on a 65-yard touchdown pass from LoCicero to senior wide receiver Dan Marino. LoCicero than ran it in for the point after attempt.

"Our team is in a pretty good position now," said Flatley. "If we beat Mepham next week in our final game we'll get the number one seed heading into the playoffs."

The game kicks off at 1:30 p.m. at Mepham High School.
