Two Men Convicted Of Murdering Man On Nassau Street

The two gunned down 32-year-old Jude St. Clair over a fight he got into earlier in the day.

Two Nassau men were convicted on Thursday of shooting a man to death in Uniondale in August 2016.

After two days of deliberation, the jury convicted both Joshua Taylor, 25, of Hempstead, and Jorge Burgess, 25, of Uniondale, with the murder of Jude St. Clair. They are due back in court for sentencing on June 12.

“Jude St. Clair was lured to his death by these defendants who were seeking revenge for a fight,” said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas. “These convictions will ensure these men will pay a heavy price for this despicable crime.”

On Aug. 21, 2016, around 10 a.m., Burgess lured 32-year-old Jude St. Clair down a street of Nassau Road in Uniondale. When he got there, Burgess and and Taylor shot at St. Clair eight times, hitting him three times: once in his upper chest, once in his left shoulder and one grazing his buttocks. The two were seeking revenge for a fight that had occurred earlier in the morning between St. Clair and Taylor's cousin.

St. Clair died of his wounds.

Burgess and Taylor both fled the scene. Burgess was arrested by the NCPD on Aug. 30. Taylor was staying with his cousin in Connecticut, where he was arrested on Sept. 10, and then extradited back to Nassau County.

Both men were convicted of two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Taylor was found guilty of second-degree murder, and Burgess was found guilty of second-degree manslaughter. Taylor faces 25 years to life in prison, while Burgess faces a sentence of five to 15 years.
