Two Nassau Men Arrested In MS-13 Murder: NYPD

BREAKING: The two were charged with the May murder of a rival MS-13 member, police said.

Two men from Hempstead were arrested Thursday and charged with the May murder of a man in Queens, which police believe was gang related.

According to the New York Post, Roberto "Splinter" Abrego, 23, and Jose "Smoker" Alvarenga, 27, both of Hempsted, were charged with murdering Fernando Gonzalez-Chavez, 39, in front of the Seven and Seven Deli, located on 162nd Street, just after midnight on May 31.

Police say that Gonzalez-Chavez was leaving a bar when he was attacked by the two gang members, the Post reported, and Alvarenga shot him in the chest.

According to Newsday, gang-related graffiti was found in the area, and Gonzalez-Chavez had a "13" tattoo. Police told the Post they believed the murder was related to fighting among different factions of the MS-13 gang.

Newsday reported that, when the two men were arrested in Hempstead, police also recovered five guns: three 9 mm handguns, one .22 caliber pistol and one BB gun. The murder weapons was not found, police said.
