Uniondale School District Recognized for Outstanding Music Department

Long Island Music Hall of Fame Awards First High School Recognition Program Honors

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (March 29, 2017) – The Uniondale School District was recently recognized as one of seven school districts on Long Island to receive the Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s first ever “High School Recognition Program” honor. The program identifies high school music programs on Long Island that create notable music experiences for their students, incorporating Nationals and New York State Standards for the Arts in creative and meaningful ways.

“The Uniondale School District is honored to receive this award as a testament to our outstanding teachers’ and students’ hard work and dedication,” said Uniondale School District Superintendent Dr. William K. Lloyd. “We are proud of our robust arts and music program and everyone who made this success possible.”

The Uniondale School District was selected from hundreds of high schools on Long Island. Applications were critically reviewed by a panel of music educators of note. Selection was based on program details including inclusion of national and state standards for music in curriculum, faculty, staffing and community and board support. Other recognized schools include Freeport High School, Great Neck North High School, Herricks High School, Huntington High School, Long Island High School of the Arts and Northport High School.

There will be an award ceremony honoring these high schools on April 3, 2017. During the ceremony, each school will present a performing ensemble prior to the acceptance of their award.

“This award is a direct reflection of Uniondale High School’s dedicated staff and rigorous programs,” said Uniondale School District Director of Fine and Performing Arts Kelvin Jenkins. “We look forward to building on this accomplishment in future years as the District continues its upward trajectory of success.”
