Update: Police Arrest Four in Steak House Robbery

Hempstead men charged with robbery, kidnapping, burglary and more.

A joint investigation between the Third Squad and the Hempstead Police Department has led to the arrests of four Hempstead men in connection to the robbery at Ruth's Chris Steak House on Old Country Road Monday evening.

  • Ubence Paz, 21, is charged with second-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, second-degree burglary, criminal use of a firearm, second degree, possession of a dangerous weapon, fourth degree, and resisting arrest.
  • Kevin Hernandez, 19, is charged with second-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, second-degree burglary, criminal use of a firearm, second degree, possession of a dangerous weapon, fourth degree, and resisting arrest.
  • Marcos Hernandez, 25, is charged first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, second-degree burglary and conspiracy, fourth degree.
  • Noe Antonio Hernandez 21, is charged with criminal possession of stolen property, third degree, and tampering with physical evidence. 

Police state a 53-year-old female employee of the steak house was accosted by two of the defendants who demanded she take them to the safe Monday at 11:50 p.m. as she was closing the restaurant.

Police said the subjects removed the safe outside to the victim's car when she failed to open it and forced her inside the vehicle. The subjects then drove to Hempstead and dumped the safe at an unknown location and abandoned the victim and her car in a wooded area on Cathedral Avenue, according to officers.

Both subjects fled on foot, according to police, and the victim ran to a nearby home where residents notified police. The victim was not injured during the incident.

The safe was recovered in Franklin Square, according to Third Precinct officers.

The defendants will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
