Vandal Causes $2K Damage To Menorah On Long Island: Police

A man used an unknown object to strike the religious symbol on the front lawn of a home, Nassau police said.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A vandal caused $2,000 in damage to a large lighted menorah on the front lawn of a Hempstead home on Wednesday, Nassau police said.

The male subject walked up to the religious symbol, which was outside of a home on Nassau Boulevard, and then used some unknown object to strike it, destroying two lights before running away at around 12:35 a.m., according to police.

The vandal took off on Nassau Boulevard in an unknown direction, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

The subject is described as an adult wearing dark-colored clothing and a black backpack.

The crime has been classified criminal mischief.
