Veteran Educator Named New Garden City Public Schools Principal
Melanie Odone, who joins the Hemlock School, had been an assistant principal in the Baldwin School District.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Hemlock School has a new principal. Melanie Odone has been named to the position for the 2023-2024 school year.
This marks Odone's 20th year in the field of education.
She most recently served as assistant principal of Steele Elementary School in the Baldwin School District. Odone was also the districtwide reading supervisor for grades K-6.

"I am the type of leader who fosters a kind, caring, and inclusive environment that supports students' academic, social and emotional needs," Odone said.
Odone taught in the Amityville and Levittown school districts and in the New York City public school system.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in both elementary education and psychology as well as a master’s degree in literacy from Hofstra University.
"Odone’s experience in literacy and her love for the primary level will be an asset to Hemlock," Garden City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Kusum Sinha said.
