This Week Crime In Garden City: $85 Stolen In Modelo Beer, Swimming In Pond, Burnt English Muffin
The Village of Garden City details its weekly crime report.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Incorporated Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Tuesday, June 23.

The items reported took place between June 16 and June 23 and are as follows:

June 23:
- GCPD conducted a truck stop at the Stewart Manor Railroad Station. Seven commercial vehicles were inspected, of which three were placed out of service. Thirty-six tickets were issued.
- Officers responded to five car crashes.

- GCPD officers responded to a golf course on Stewart Ave. for a report of youths swimming and fishing in a pond; upon arrival, the youths were no longer at the scene.
- GDPD and GCFD responded to a Garden City residence for an automatic fire alarm that was activated by a burnt English muffin in the microwave.
June 21:
- Officers responded to a Garden City residence for the report of a possible lost dog. Before police arrival, the dog was located in the rear of a Stewart Ave. yard.
June 20:
- GCPD responded to a Franklin Ave. restaurant for a report of a possible fight between two groups. Upon arrival, one group remained; medical assistance was rendered to one person, and no further police action was requested.
- Officers responded to a report of a man who tried to open the passenger door of a vehicle that was stopped at a red light. Upon arrival, the man was no longer at the scene. Detectives were notified.
June 19:
- Officers responded to a Garden City residence for a report of the larceny of a potted plant. Detectives are investigating.
- GCPD interviewed a Garden City resident who reports an identity theft involving a stolen/altered check that had been mailed, resulting in a financial loss of approximately $700.
- A Pomeranian dog was brought to GCPD HQ that was found running loose at Clinton Rd. and Poplar St. The dog was transported to Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter without incident.
June 18:
- Officers responded to 1st St. for a report of landscapers using gas leaf blowers and working before 8 a.m. on a weekday. Officers canvassed the area for violations with negative results.
- As a result of high winds, a power outage occurred between Stewart Ave. and Merillon Ave. from Rockaway Ave. to Meadbrook Rd. GCPD officers responded to several reports of traffic lights being out and assisted where necessary. Additionally, GCPD officers responded to seven reports of tree limbs, and Garden City Parks and Recreation were notified and removed all reported tree limbs from the roadway.
June 17:
- GCPD responded to a report of a larceny of $85 of Modelo beer. Report taken and forwarded to the detective division.
- A Garden City resident reported that an unknown person in Los Angeles used her ATM card to access $6,000. Detectives are investigating.
