This Week Crime In Garden City: DWI, Car Crashes, Identity Theft
The Village of Garden City details its weekly crime report.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Inc. Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Tuesday, March 10.

The items reported took place between March 18 and March 24 and are as follows:

Tuesday, 3/24:

- A commercial box truck driver was issued twelve tickets after GCPD officers stopped the truck, which had suspended registration plates. Further investigation revealed that the suspended plates were switched onto the unregistered truck and that the driver's driving privileges in NYS were revoked. The unregistered/uninsured box truck was impounded.
- Officers observed a suspicious vehicle without registration plates and numerous equipment violations traveling in a parking lot behind CVS. Further investigation showed that the driver had the registration plate inside the vehicle. Multiple tickets were issued.
Sunday, 3/22:
- Identity theft was reported involving scanned personal documents that were possibly sent to a fraudulent online site.
- Officers responded to Meadow St. for a report of a car crash involving a tree. A 27-year-old was arrested after a DWI and two additional VTLs.
Saturday, 3/21:
- A resident reported that a passport was lost in the mail and did not reach its out-of-state destination after it had been mailed from the Garden City Post Office.
Friday, 3/20:
- Identity theft was reported regarding a stolen and altered bank check, resulting in financial loss. Detectives are currently investigating.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to a Garden City Plaza building for an automatic fire alarm that was activated by a curling iron.
Thursday, 3/19:
- GCPD Officers assisted GCFD with a natural gas leak on Brompton Rd.
- Officers responded to Stewart Ave. to help a motorist who had loose equipment spill onto the roadway.
- A possible water main break occurred on Brixton Rd. Officers responded, and the Water Department was on the scene as well.
- A resident reported his unlocked car was entered and had golf clubs and other items stolen from it, totaling a loss of $1,400. Detectives are currently investigating.
Wednesday, 3/18:
- A Garden City resident reported that a stolen check was changed after it was mailed. The amount of loss reported was $11,492, and detectives are currently investigating.
