This Week Crime In Garden City: Vaping, Lost Dog, Youths On Motorbikes

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Incorporated Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Tuesday, Sep. 8.

The items reported took place between September 2 and September 8 and are as follows:

Sep. 8:

• GCPD officers responded to Stewart Ave. at Cherry Valley Ave. for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian who was struck, and the vehicle involved leaving the scene without exchanging information. Detectives are investigating.
• A 68-year-old Rockville Centre man was arrested by GCPD Detectives after leaving the scene of an auto crash.
• GCPD and GCFD responded to Adelphi University Post Hall for an automatic fire alarm, deemed to have been set off due to vaping.

Sep. 7:

• GCPD officers participated in NYS DWI Crackdown. While on patrol, officers arrested a 20-year-old Williston Park man after DWI while operating a 2008 Honda on Franklin Ave. in the vicinity of 15th St.
• Officers responded to a Garden City resident for the report of two dogs, possibly off-leash. Officers canvassed the area with negative results.

Sep 6:

• GCPD officers responded to a report of youths on motorbikes. Upon arrival, officers checked the area, and the youths had left before officers arrived. Officers remained in the area canvassing.
• GCPD officers responded to Cathedral Ave. and 2nd St. for a report of a loose dog. Officers rendered assistance, and the dog was returned to its owner.
• Officers responded to a Garden City residence for a dispute between two drivers that stemmed from a previous road rage incident. The dispute was resolved, and no further police assistance was requested.

Sep. 5:

• A legally parked and unoccupied Village of Garden City police vehicle sustained minor damage after being struck by a 2023 Cadillac on 7th Street. The operator of the Cadillac reported no injuries.

Sep. 4:

• GCPD responded to the Garden City Library for a security guard who came into contact with a found hypodermic needle. The security guard was transported to Winthrop for evaluation.

• Officers responded to the Cathedral Ave. crossing for a gate malfunction. MTA was at the scene.

Sep. 3:

• GCPD officers responded to the rest station at St. Paul's for a report of damaged property and unlawful entry. Detectives are investigating.
• GCPD officers responded to a Garden City residence for a report of an unknown man on his property who entered his vehicle. Additional similar reports were received for three other residences. Officers located a 23-year-old man and arrested him.
• GCPD and GCFD responded to Adelphi University for an automatic fire alarm, deemed to have been set off due to vaping in the bathroom.

Sep. 2:

• GCPD responded to Walgreens for a larceny. Four subjects were stopped. Prosecution declined. Field interviews completed. All four were advised they were persona non grata.
• Officers responded to a road for a large pile of debris in the roadway. Debris removed.
