Woman Who Left Children Alone In Hotel Arrest: Garden City Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for teh week ending Dec. 22.
Dec. 16
- Construction tools were reported stolen from a Pell Terrace construction worksite.
- A medical device was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in Parking Field 9E.
- A 36-year-old driver was arrested on Stewart Avenue for driving with a forged out of state registration, improper plates, unregistered vehicle, and not wearing a seatbelt.

- As a result of a winter storm, officers and firefighters responded to reports of auto accidents, hazardous icy/snowy road conditions, wires down, power outages, alarms and a traffic light malfunction.
Dec. 18
- Officers assisted firefighters who responded to the Garden City Country Club and extinguished a small ceiling fire inside the Pro Shop.

- Firefighters and officers responded to Parking Field 7S for a hazardous condition. Upon arrival, it was determined there was a fuel leak from a disabled vehicle. The area was safeguarded, and the vehicle removed from the scene.
- Upon investigation of an aggressive driver on Franklin Avenue, officers arrested a 23-year-old man for DWI, unlicensed operation, excessive speed, and unsafe lane usage.
- Officers are investigating a report of a vehicle with a U-Haul trailer leaving the scene after striking and damaging another vehicle on Stewart Avenue.
Dec. 20
- Officers assisted firefighters for a call of a residential fire alarm activation. Upon investigation, the cause was determined to be burnt food.
Dec. 21
- Officers and Child Protection Services personnel responded to the Residence Inn where a one-year-old child was found alone and crying in a locked room. Two other siblings, ages 5 and 10, were found at other locations on the first floor without adult supervision present. During the investigation, the children’s mother returned to the hotel accompanied by a 9-year-old child. She was arrested for three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. Child Protective services took temporary custody of all four children.
- Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Franklin Avenue and 12th Street. One of the operators suffered chest pains and was transported by ambulance to Winthrop Hospital. The other operator, a 45-year-old male, was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to Winthrop Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
- Officers and firefighters responded to a 7th Street business for a report of a carbon monoxide alarm activation. Upon investigation, all appeared to be in order.
- Firefighters assisted the Carle Place Fire Department with a working house fire.
Dec. 22
- Garden City detectives arrested a 37-year-old man for approaching his ex-girlfriend at Garden City Plaza on Dec. 4 as well as making threatening phone calls to her on Nov. 30, both in violation of an order of protection. He was charged with two counts of criminal contempt, and aggravated family offense.
