Garden City, N.Y. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced the latest national poll of the top-25 teams and it now includes Adelphi. The women's soccer team checks in at #25 and is one of just three teams from the Northeast-10 Conference to appear in the poll.
The Panthers (13-2-4) recently finished the NE-10 Championship Tournament as the runner up to top seeded and #4 nationally ranked St. Rose. However, they defeated the then #9 American International College Yellow Jackets (now #13) by a score of 2-1 to advance to the final round. It's the second year in a row they were the conference tournament runner up. In 2005 and 2006, the squad received votes but never made it into the top-25.
The last time the Brown and Gold appeared in the national poll was back in 2004 when they had arguably the best year in program history after posting a the program's only 20-win season (20-4-1) and earning a #2 national ranking courtesy of an NCAA runner up finish.
Adelphi was awarded the fourth seed in the regional tournament earlier this week and will face former East Coast Conference rivals in fifth seeded Mercy College on Friday, November 15 at noon. The game will be played at top seeded St. Rose in Albany, N.Y. Should they win, they will face the Golden Knights on Sunday, November 17 at noon.
