Women's Tennis Picked Third in NE-10 Preseason Poll

2013 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll

South Easton, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team earned the third spot in the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, it was announced by the league office on Thursday.

Southern New Hampshire University took the top spot in the poll after winning their third straight NE-10 Championship Tournament title in 2012. The Penmen (5-1, 5-0 NE-10) received 138 points and eight first-place votes in the poll, topping Stonehill College (7-0, 5-0 NE-10), which finished second in the voting with 134 points and five first-place tallies.

So. New Hampshire defeated Stonehill in last year's Northeast-10 Championship before both earned bids to the NCAA Tournament. The two programs are currently a perfect 5-0 in conference action in 2012-13.

The Panthers, who earned a share of the 2012 NE-10 Regular Season Championship, earned the No. 6 seed in the East Region in their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament last season. Adelphi was bounced from the NE-10 Championship Tournament by the Penmen.

First-year Head Coach Michael Misiti will rely on seniors Maria Toft, Samra Redzematovic and Michelle Gurda  to lead Adelphi in the spring season. Toft earned spots on the 2012 NE-10 All-Championship Team and All-Conference Second Team at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She also advanced to the ITA East Regional Tournament B Doubles championship with Bianca Posa after an impressive list of victories which included defeating the So. New Hampshire University powerhouse tandem of Amanda Albuquerque and Kirsten Jean.
Redzematovic claimed All-Conference First Team accolades for No. 3 singles, while Gurda claimed All-Conference Third Team for No. 2 singles and joined Redzematovic on the First Team at No. 2 doubles.

Bentley University (5-0, 5-0 NE-10) finished fourth in the poll with 108 points, followed by Saint Michael's College (3-0, 3-0 NE-10) with 102 points and Merrimack College (2-2, 2-0 NE-10) with 93 points.

Le Moyne College (1-6, 1-4 NE-10) totaled 61 points, Saint Anselm College (0-3, 0-3 NE-10) had 59 points, Assumption College (0-6, 0-3 NE-1) finished with 55 points, and the University of New Haven (3-4, 3-3 NE-10) had 51 points to round out the top 10 schools.

Making up the remainder of the poll was The College of Saint Rose (0-6, 0-6 NE-10) with 36 points, Franklin Pierce University (1-5, 0-5 NE-10) with 29 points and American International College (0-2, 0-2 NE-10) with 25 points.
