$500K Grant Funds Major Improvements At Glen Cove's Morgan Park

GLEN COVE, NY —Visitors to Glen Cove's Morgan Park will notice several upgrades after a $500,000 state grant funded improvements to the city's waterfront park.

The project included reconstructing the park's north and south seawalls, restoring the brick pavilions — including the lifeguard stand — and repairing the park's historic granite tea house.

"These improvements protect our shoreline, preserve our history, and enhance the experience for every resident and visitor who enjoys Morgan Park," Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck said.

The grant was secured with the support of Assemblyman Charles Lavine and funded through the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), a public benefit corporation that provides financing, construction and grant administration for public-sector projects across the state.

Lavine said the seawall reconstruction is particularly important because it helps prevent saltwater intrusion into the city's aquifer.

"I am incredibly pleased to be able to work with the city on this project to provide upgrades to a place that is so meaningful to this community," Lavine added.

City officials also credited Glen Cove Community Development Agency Executive Director Ann Fangmann with helping secure the funding.

"This grant was the final piece needed to complete the reconstruction," Fangmann said.

Officials said the project was a collaborative effort involving the Community Development Agency, the Department of Public Works, Project Manager Rocco Graziosi and Senior Grant Writer and Administrator Jocelyn Wenk.
