SEA CLIFF, NY — A mom-and-pop general store is bringing a cozy, small-town feel to Sea Cliff — and it's celebrating its grand opening this weekend.
Sea Cliff General Store first opened its doors a few months ago, after owner and local resident Laura Bonelli set out to create a gathering space for local artists, musicians, and families.
Bonelli, whose family operated a bakery in Woodside for more than 40 years, said she wanted to bring that same "family feel" to her Sea Cliff community members.
"We hope to create an environment where people can come and gather to listen to music, find unique gifts, and create a destination for children to enjoy as well," she said.
The shop, run by family and friends, is more than the typical retail space.
"Sea Cliff General isn't trying to compete with mass retailers on scale, it's offering something they can't replicate, a sense of place, personality, and community that feels personal every single time you walk through the door," she said.
Bonelli said shopping local helps a town thrive while offering a more personal experience.
"Local shops curate their products thoughtfully, offer more personal service, and create experiences that feel human, not transactional," she said. "You’re not just another sale; you’re a familiar face."
At places like Sea Cliff General, she said, it goes even deeper.
"It’s about creating a space where people gather, connect, and feel part of something," Bonelli said. Local stores give a town its personality, charm, and sense of identity."
The shop had its soft opening on Nov. 15, 2025, and the grand opening will be on Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The ribbon-cutting event will be at 11:30 a.m. The shop is located at 311 Sea Cliff Avenue.
