GLEN COVE, NY — A GoFundMe has been launched to support the heartbroken family of 23-year-old David Anthony DeJesus after police said he collided with a vehicle while riding his e-scooter in Glen Cove.
The Roslyn man died after colliding with a Jeep Wrangler on Aug. 19 at 7:22 p.m. near Dosoris Way and Elliot Place, according to Nassau County police.
The GoFundMe has raised more than $9,400 from 112 donors as of Wednesday.
"He was a gentle, innocent soul who was just beginning to find his way in life," the page read. "That day, he had left home to go to the bank and run a few errands, and he was especially excited because he was preparing to attend Comic Con, something that meant so much to him. He wore his helmet and tried to be safe, but heartbreakingly, he never made it home."
The page added that DeJesus' parents are facing about $9,000 in unexpected funeral expenses.
"They live on a fixed income, and our family is asking for support to help ease this financial burden so they can focus on grieving and honoring David's life. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help give David the loving and dignified farewell he deserves. If donating is not possible, please consider sharing David's story. Every donation, share, prayer, and kind word means more to David's family than words can express."
