1. Glen Cove Beautification Commission adds new benches to 9/11 memorial (longislandpress.com) — Glen Cove's Pratt Park 9/11 Memorial now features two new benches, funded by a local firefighter and the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce and installed in time for the city's remembrance ceremony. Led by Beautification Commissioner Barbara Peebles, the project reflects deep community support and is part of broader plans to add flowers, signage, and other upgrades residents can soon enjoy.
2. Glen Cove students return for first day of the school year (liherald.com) — Students across the Glen Cove City School District are already back in class, with children from pre-K through 12th grade starting the 2026-27 year on September 2. From elementary schools to Glen Cove High School, teachers welcomed students to new routines, friendships, and learning, with younger kids easing in through an early dismissal on the first day.
3. Seaford man charged in Nassau fentanyl trafficking investigation (liherald.com) — A major Nassau County narcotics investigation has tied fentanyl, xylazine, and cocaine trafficking to several communities, including Glen Cove, and named a Glen Cove man among the six defendants. Prosecutors say the alleged ringleader coordinated hundreds of sales across the county, and all defendants, who have pleaded not guilty, face serious drug charges in upcoming court dates.
4. DHS Decries 'Faux Outrage' over Social Media Post (lilifepolitics.com) — Glen Cove's state Assemblyman Charles Lavine is sharply criticizing a Department of Homeland Security social media graphic he calls blatantly racist and ill-timed so close to the 9/11 anniversary. DHS is pushing back, dismissing his comments as "faux outrage" while defending its depiction of an undocumented Indian truck driver using a Transformers-themed image.
