LONG ISLAND, NY — Incumbent Democrat Thomas DiNapoli secured his reelection, and declared victory over Republican challenger Joseph Hernandez in the state's comptroller's race on Tuesday, CBS Albany and other outlets reported.
As of 10:50 p.m., DiNapoli garnered 65 percent of the vote, while Hernandez had 32 percent, with 9,008 of 13,187 districts reporting, according to the state's Board of Elections.
DiNapoli's campaign released this statement:
"Tonight's victory is not just a personal victory for me. It's also a recognition of the outstanding efforts of the 3,000 dedicated professionals of the State Comptroller's office who do a great job on behalf of the people of New York. And it is a victory for the hard-working public employees, including our first responders, and our retirees who understand the importance of a secure pension. I thank all those who supported me with their votes, their endorsements, and their volunteer efforts, especially my friends in Labor, who powered tonight's great victory. The campaign is over but the work continues. I look forward to serving all the people of New York as your State Comptroller for the next four years."
