Antigone Rising, an all-female band known for its ”boot-stompin’-alt-country-rock” sound performs in Sea Cliff on Saturday at AR Fest.

The free concert starts at 5:30 p.m. at Sea Cliff Beach at 56 The Blvd.

In 2011 Roseanne Cash at an Antigone Rising took to Twitter to call it “My favorite show of the year.“ And the band has continued on its forward trajectory.

Founded by sisters Kristen Ellis-Henderson and Cathy Henderson, raised in Glen Cove and now residing in Glen Cove and Sea Cliff, the band and released several albums through independent labels before signing with Lava Records in 2003. After a few shifting band members, drummer Tauriello and lead singer and rhythm guitarist Nini Camps completed the quartet.

Antigone Rising made news in April when Kristin Ellis-Henderson appeared on the cover of Time with wife Sarah Kate Ellis-Henderson, the president and CEO of GLAAD, for a feature on marriage equality. The band pledges to donate 5 percent of its earnings to GLAAD from the two-volume “Whiskey and Wine,” (Volume 2 is due October 28) by partnering with Pledgemusic.com.
