Glen Cove 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Glen Cove 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Event Details

Pratt Park, 8 Glen Cove Ave, Glen Cove, NY, 11542

GLEN COVE, N.Y. - The City of Glen Cove will hold its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 11, at 5:30 p.m. at Pratt Park.

This year’s ceremony carries special significance as the community marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The City will remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day, honor the first responders who courageously answered the call and recognize those who later died from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.

The ceremony will pay special tribute to four Glen Cove residents who lost their lives on September 11: Edward J. Lehman, Matthew T. McDermott, John F. Puckett and Joseph J. Zuccala.

“Twenty-five years later, we continue to carry the memories of those we lost and the extraordinary courage shown by our first responders,” said Mayor Pamela D. Panzenbeck. “We invite our residents to stand together with the families of our four Glen Cove neighbors as we honor their lives and ensure that they are never forgotten.”

The program will include the Glen Cove Emergency Services Color Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance led by former Fire Chief Vincent Martinez Jr., the National Anthem performed by Brianna Pietri, prayers by Pastor John Burns and Pastor Shawn Williams, Taps performed by Matthew McCormack and Amazing Grace performed by bagpiper Robert Lynch.

Camille Cudra-Chalen will recite “A Tribute to Heroes,” written by Glen Cove Poet Laureate Victoria Crosby. Mayor Panzenbeck and family members of the victims will place a wreath at the City’s 9/11 Memorial.

Members of the Glen Cove community are encouraged to attend and join the City in remembering those who were lost, honoring those who served and reflecting on the strength and unity shown in the days following the attacks.
