City Honors Darren Pittman on National Night Out

The Glen Cove native has long dedicated himself to the community, officials said.

The 8th annual City of Glen Cove National Night Out event drew a crowd.

Children and their families enjoyed face painting, a castle bounce, a dunk tank – with two police officers getting a bit wet – and tours of the city’s police headquarters.

Mayor Reginald Spinello, members of the City Council, local elected officials and police took part in this nationwide event. Coordinating all the festivities was Lt. Chris Ortiz, GCPD.

This year’s National Night Out honoree is Darren Pittman, considered “a tireless volunteer” on behalf of our the youth, according to a news release. Pittman was presented with citations from Mayor Spinello and local elected officials applauding his dedication.

Born and raised in Glen Cove, Pittman graduated from Glen Cove High School where he was a star basketball player. He worked at Konica for 27 years and also worked for 15 years at the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club where he counseled youth. Pittman is currently employed by London Jewelers. During his free time and for ten years, he is a mentor with the Glen Cove Youth Bureau. He coached with Glen Cove Jr. Baseball at the Senior Division Level and with St. Patrick’s CYO Basketball at the Senior Youth Level.
