Cyclist Falls, Gets Fatally Struck by Jeep in Locust Valley

The incident occurred Friday night, police say.

A man was killed Friday night after police say he fell off his bicycle and was struck by a Jeep in Locust Valley.

According to authorities, the 55-year-old man was riding eastbound on Forest Avenue when he fell off his bicycle and was struck by a 2015 Jeep Patriot, driven by an 18-year-old woman, traveling eastbound at 8:02 p.m.

The man was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m.

The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and was not injured from the crash, police say. The vehicle received a brake and safety check at the scene and was returned to the owner.

Police are investigating the crash, which they say is non-criminal.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending family notification.
