Driver Leads Cops on Chase, Causes Collision With Patrol Vehicle on LIE: Police
BREAKING: The man was arrested following a struggle with police Saturday night, authorities say.

An Upper Brookville man, who cops say threatened another driver, led officers on a police chase and was involved in a crash with a police cruiser after he refused to be pulled over in Greenvale on Saturday night, police say.
According to authorities, a motorist notified a police officer that 19-year-old Muhammaddauwd Cheema, who was stopped at the red light east on Northern Boulevard and Glen Cove Road, was acting "suspiciously and threateningly" at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The officer activated his emergency lights and siren, but Cheema refused to stop, continued traveling eastbound and evaded police by speeding and driving on the shoulder of the road, police say.

Cheema then went south on Route 107 and entered the Long Island Expressway traveling eastbound, police say. The man's vehicle, between Exits 42 and 43, swerved, lost control and struck an assisting Highway Police vehicle, causing damage, police say.
According to authorities, the man regained control of his vehicle, exited the expressway at Exit 51 south and continued driving until he pulled into the driveway of a Dickens Avenue home in Dix Hills.

Officers, who were following the man the entire time, placed Cheema into custody after a brief struggle and the man's refusal to obey several direct orders, police say.
The Highway Patrol Officer involved in the crash was treated at a local hospital for neck, back and shoulder injuries. Cheema was not hurt, police say.
Cheema is being charged with second-degree assault, first-degree endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police office and multiple NYS vehicle and traffic law violations. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
