Elderly Woman Killed in Glen Cove House Fire

The home was severely damaged from the Monday morning blaze.

An elderly woman was killed in a house fire that severely damaged a Glen Cove home Monday morning, Nassau County Police say.

According to authorities, Glen Cove Police officers responded to a house fire at a Briarcliff Lane home at 3:54 a.m. The officers forced open the door and immediately found the body of 81-year-old Hella Archambault who was unresponsive and suffered burns from the fire, Glen Cove Police say.

Archambault was taken out of the house where it was determined she was in cardiac arrest and CPR was initiated.

The Glen Cove EMS arrived to the scene and transported the woman to Glen Cove Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Glen Cove firefighters, with assistance from Seacliff, Locust Valley and Glenwood Fire Departments were able to extinguish the fire, which caused severe damage to the home. A Glen Cove fireman was hospitalized for a hand injury sustained while battling the blaze, police say.

The Glen Cove Police, Nassau County Bomb Squad and the Nassau Fire Marshal's office investigated the fire and say the blaze appears non-suspicious and started in the kitchen area.
