Come, one and all, to the Bards Reading From Page One poetry reading series, sponsored by The Bards Initiative! We run at Page One on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, with a new feature every time, followed by an open read where everybody's welcome to read with open arms!
Bards Reading From Page One is a fun, intimate reading, with few formalities and even fewer rules. We welcome all forms and styles of poetry equally, including whatever yours might be, so there's no excuse not to come by!
The festivities will be led by our guest host for the evening, the great and powerful Ishwa (known as James P. Wagner at his day job)!
This time around, we've got two features for you, guaranteed to draw you in, speak sweet everythings into your ears, and leave you begging for more! First up is Nick Hale, a Long Islander who got hauled off to Texas and now communicates with the rest of the Bards through emails, speakerphone, and editorial work. Then we have Marc Rosen, celebrating his 24th birthday in style with poetry that can only be described in polite society as powerful, honest, and unique (so wait till everyone's gone, then tell us what you really think)!
As always, get here at 7:30 to order food and put your name down for the open reading at the end, because we go on with the show at 8!
This Bards Initiative reading series is free to attend, but your donations are greatly appreciated, every penny of which goes directly to funding our various ongoing projects throughout Long Island. In addition, head chef and co-owner Jeanine DiMenna offers up a special $5 "bar menu" at all of our readings (if you'd prefer to see their standard fare menu, price fix, or reduced-fare "bailout" menu, please ask your server). We highly encourage you to come, relax, and enjoy some dinner with your poetry.
The Bards Initiative is a multi-purpose poetry project dedicated to providing avenues for poets to share their work and encourages the use of poetry for social change. In addition, the Initiative aims to make use of modern technologies to help spread, encourage and inspire poetry particularly in the younger generations. It is the core belief of the Bards Initiative that poetry is the voice of the people and can be used to help create a sense of sharing and community.
