Glen Dance Studio's student company is using their love of dance to help Dancing Dreams, a 501 (c) nonprofit organization whose sole mission is to allow physically challenged children to participate in dance classes and recitals. Each dancer is assigned a high school volunteer. The volunteers learn that their actions have an impact and enrich someone's life....The dancers grow stronger and improve in their physical abilities while participating in an activity they were previously unable to participate in. Dancing Dreams was started by Joann Ferrara, a pediatric physical therapist. The program has grown from the initial 5 girls to the current group of 38 dancers ranging in age from 3-17. Dancing Dreams has been featured on the Today Show, CBS Early Show, NBC and Fox News as well as in the NY Times and People Magazine. A book about the program, titled Ballerina Dreams was published in 2007 by Macmillian. The book has been designated a "Notable Book" by the American Library Association and has won the Bank Street Nonfiction Book Award. This benefit performance is all about Kids helping Kids. Dancing Dreams started as a dream and they continue to grow. This one time only performance featuring an array of jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop and contemporary dances will be held March 13th at 3:00pm. Tickets are $12 each and seating is general admission. Tickets are available by calling Glen Dance Studio (516) 674-0082 or may be purchased at the door while they last. Please help these young dancers make Dancing Dreams come true.
