The North Shore Community Chorus and Symphony Orchestra to Perform Bruckner’s Te Deum and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2
The North Shore Community Chorus, under conductor Stephen Goldstein, and the North Shore Symphony Orchestra, under conductor Susan Deaver, will join forces in a performance of Anton Bruckner's monumental “Te Deum” with soloists Janice Weir, soprano; Brana Williams, alto; Gregory Mercer, tenor; and Scott Wheatley, bass, on Saturday, April 30th, at 8 p.m. at the North Shore High School auditorium.
Also featured on the orchestral portion of the program will be Romantic favorite: Sergei Rachmaninoff's “Piano Concerto No. 2,” performed by Timothy Carl. Mr. Carl is organist and choir director at St. Dominic's RC Church in Port Washington, as well as the piano accompanist and assistant director of the NS Community Chorus.
When Rachmaninoff himself premiered this piano concerto in 1901, it established his reputation as a composer. The concerto has been one of classical music’s “greatest hits” ever since. The movies “Brief Encounter,” “The Seven Year Itch,” and most recently Clint Eastwood's “Hereafter” all feature this gorgeously Romantic music.
