Louis M. Sanford Scholarship Recipient

(Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club)

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club is proud to announce that Ashley Najarro has been selected as the recipient of the esteemed Louis M. Sanford College Scholarship. Named in honor of the Club's former Executive Director, Louis M. Sanford, this scholarship recognizes his unwavering dedication to continuing education and his lifelong commitment to improving the lives of Glen Cove youth.

As a first-generation English speaker, Ashley took on significant responsibilities at a young age. Despite these challenges, the Club became her sanctuary—a place where she could escape the demands of adulthood and simply enjoy the joys of childhood. When she first joined the Club, Ashley was hesitant to be apart from her parents and shy around her peers. However, through the warmth and support of the Club staff, she gradually blossomed, gaining confidence and finding a sense of belonging that made the Club her home away from home. Here, Ashley found the solace and encouragement she needed to grow, thrive, and embrace her true self, both personally and academically.

“The Club was a place where I felt welcomed and valued. I found mentors who not only saw my potential but also inspired me to chase my dreams with confidence. I gained important skills through programs the Club offered and made lasting friendships that shaped who I am today,” said Ashley.

Her time at the Club not only reinforced her value in education but also helped her discover a passion for medicine. Inspired by the Club’s programs, Ashley took a decisive step in her academic journey to become more involved in school by enrolling in the BOCES Medical Assistant program during her junior year of high school, earning her certification. She is now preparing to pursue a nursing degree at Molloy College, with the ultimate goal of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
