Daniel B. and Alyssa H. were recognized as Youth of the Month for January.

(Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club)

Junior Youth of the Month, nine-year-old Daniel, is a fourth grader with a love for math and science. He has been a dedicated member of the Club for the past four years and fully immerses himself in all the Club has to offer, from academic programs to sports and technology. His dream of becoming a doctor, inspired by his cousin, fuels his passion for learning, and he enjoys strengthening his skills through programs like Khan Academy. Daniel’s enthusiasm for the Club goes beyond academics. He loves playing sports in the Gym, spending time in the Computer Lab, and engaging with staff. Though he completes his homework at the Club, he rarely needs much assistance. No matter what he is doing, Daniel finds fun in every activity, making the most of his time. For Daniel, the Club is more than just a place to go after school—it is like a second home. “I love the Club so much, I wish I could live here,” he said enthusiastically.

Senior Youth of the Month, twelve-year-old Alyssa, is a sixth grader with a passion for learning. Ever since she was five or six, she set her sights on a medical career, a path inspired by her mother who works at a hospital. With a love for English and reading, Alyssa enjoys immersing herself in books, particularly Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper. New to the Club this school year, Alyssa has embraced every opportunity it offers. The Club is helping her strengthen her academic skills, and she finds joy in the Teen Program, where she engages in a variety of activities each day. Whether she is playing in the Gym, exploring the Computer Lab, working on creative projects in the Art Room, or connecting with volunteers from the Senior Center, Alyssa is making the most of her membership. Beyond academics, Alyssa has a strong interest in both the creative arts and sports, with a particular love for drawing and softball. “The Club has been a really meaningful experience for me. I love getting to do something different every day and definitely plan to continue coming here,” Alyssa shared.
