Genesis N.M. and Hellen E. Named April Youth of the Month

Junior Youth of the Month, Hellen is eight years old and in third grade. In school, Hellen favors Social Studies and is fond of learning about people, places, and how things work in the world around her. She also appreciates reading the popular children's chapter book series Dory Fantasmagory: Dory Dory Black Sheep by Abby Hanlon. When she grows up, Hellen hopes to become a veterinarian. In her free time, Hellen enjoys playing soccer and staying active. She also likes playing GaGa Ball outside and spending time doing art when she is at the Club. A fairly new member of the Club who joined at the beginning of this year, Hellen expresses herself through creative activities and spending time with friends. She loves to make people laugh and being silly, bringing lots of energy and positivity wherever she goes. She describes the Club as “awesome,” and shared that it has helped her make a lot of new friends.
Senior Youth of the Month, Genesis is twelve years old and in seventh grade. A natural problem solver, she gravitates toward math. Her strong critical thinking skills support her goal of becoming a detective. She also has her sights set on attending Princeton University in the future. Genesis also enjoys reading, and one of her favorite books is Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. She appreciates the story’s themes of friendship and community, which reflect values that are important to her. In her free time, Genesis enjoys spending time with her friends and staying active. A member since the fourth grade, she discovered her love of sports at the Club, with volleyball becoming her favorite. Genesis describes herself as someone who values learning, trying new things, and being around others who are supportive and encouraging. She has built many friendships through her experiences. When asked what makes the Club special, Genesis shared, “The friendships I’ve made here stand out the most.”
