Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Announces 2019 Youth of the Year
Javier Y., 17, has been named Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club 2019 Youth of the Year.

Javier is a senior at Glen Cove High School and is currently working as a Group Leader at the Club. He was first introduced to the Club at the age of eight when he joined as a member and participated in many of the programs.
As a teenager, he engaged in the Club’s Teen experiences including community service activities, College tours and fun filled events both on and off the premises. It was here that he found a great support system, guidance, mentoring and the positive reinforcement he needed to help him prepare for the next phase in his life. “The Club’s support system made such an impact on me that I wanted to become a part of it and share the patience and kindness bestowed on me,” said Javier, who enrolled in the Summer Youth Employment workshops. Participation in the SYE soon led to employment in the Club’s six-week Summer program and as Group Leader during the school year. “I love working with the kids, they are really awesome and I’m glad to be helping them.
With the help and support of the Teen Program Director, Javier has also able to determine his post high school graduation goals, applying to and being accepted into the Welding Program at Suffolk Community College. “It’s very important to me to be able to go to school and work at the Club,” said Javier, who will work while attending school come September. “I’m looking forward to graduating and I’m grateful to the Club for making me a better person. The Club and all the people who work here have made a huge impact on me and I now have a more positive outlook. The Club is more than just a home away from home, it’s like my relaxing home.”

“We are very happy to name Javier the 2019 Youth of the Year. He has really grown into a remarkable and caring young man and he’s loved by all the young members. He works very hard, is a great role model and he truly deserved to receive this prestigious title.” said GCBGC Executive Director, Franca Trunzo.
