Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club December Youth of the Month

Jeanelly A. and Elijah G. named Youth of the Month for December for their ongoing dedication and commitment to the Club.

Jeanelly and Elijah are extra thankful for Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club this holiday season.

Jeanelly A., 14, has been thoroughly enjoying her first year as a member at Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club. She has already committed herself to many of the wonderful programs and activities offered throughout the year. As a 9th grader attending Glen Cove High School, Jeanelly was first invited to the Club as a guest through a school friend. She enjoyed herself so much that she decided to officially become a member. At first shy and reserved, Jeanelly became a passionate member of the teen program, participating in group discussions and activities with staff and trusted mentor Ms. Breanna (Townsell). Jeanelly wants to become an architect to design beautiful homes, and has a love for building her own models out of LEGO, paper or anything she can find. As an active member of the Club, Jeanelly likes to volunteer her time during special Club-wide events, which she says makes her a feel like a part of something bigger. “The Club has helped me become a nicer, more social person and to really come out of my shell,” shares Jeanelly.

Elijah G., 9, attends Landing Elementary School as a 4th grader. Elijah’s passion for planes has him eager to join the Air Force and excited to protect his country. He has been a Club member for four years and is a great role model for his fellow members. Whether it's pushing himself physically in the gym, learning new interesting programs in the technology lab, or kindly holding the Club’s front door open for his fellow Club members; Elijah applies himself fully to any program or activity he participates in. Elijah also feels that the Club has helped him to become more social, stating “When I first joined, I loved the Club so much but I was very shy. But my friends have helped me be myself and the staff is always there for me.” Elijah loves spending time with Group Leader Mr. Jahrae (O’Neill), who he says is ‘like family’. He is also incredibly thankful for Program Director Ms. Jackie (Telleria) for always being supportive. Thinking about the wonderful Club-wide winter holiday initiatives and events that he has been enjoying, Elijah shared “The Club has been so good to me. I hope more people join to see what it can do for them!”
