Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club February Youth of the Month

Alexandra A., 12, is a sixth grader attending Finley Middle School. In her second year attending the Club, she has eagerly immersed herself into her favorite programs and activities- her favorite of which is playing soccer in the gym to stay active and making new friends as she goes. Alexandra was shy when she first came to the Club but she quickly formed a connection with Group Leader Mr. Anton (Seaman) who helps her daily with his homework and is always around to give a listening ear, stating "I can talk to Anton about school or anything else- he’s always there to listen and that’s really important to me". When asked about her overall Club experience, Alexandra shared that she is thankful to have the Club’s guidance: "The Club teaches important life lessons that I’ll always take with me".

Michael G., 13, has been a Club member for the past five years, and is a seventh grader at Finley Middle School. Like Alexandra, Michael likes to spend his time at the Club staying active in the gym, but he also enjoys participating in the various activities and off-site trips offered by the Teen Program. Michael credits the Club with helping him acclimate to new social situations, stating “When I first arrived at the Club I didn’t really have any friends- my time here helped me open up a lot and now I feel like I know half the Club already”. In his earlier years, he fostered a friendship with Group Leaders Ms. Lyasia (Milledge) and Mr. Anton (Seaman) that he’s deeply thankful for and continues to this day. Overall, Michael is most thankful to the Club for providing a safe place to be with his friends. When asked about his favorite Club memory, Michael shared “Once I won an award for Power Hour and everyone was so surprised and proud of me- I’ll never forget that moment.”
