Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club November Youth of the Month

Yesica and Junior are extra thankful for Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club this season.

Yesica V., 12, is in the 6th grade and although this is her first year as a Club member, she has immersed herself in the wide variety of programs and activities the Club has to offer. Yesica practices dance routines with dance coordinator Ms. Diamond (Avant), sharing her passion for dance. Yesica has a love for science and wasted no time finding her niche in the Clubs STEM program, where she enjoys the opportunity to test out fun projects and ideas each week. As an active member of Torch Club, Yesica helps out around the Club and at special Club-wide events, which helps her feel like an important part of a team. “I always feel safe here. There is always someone to help me with homework. I am thankful there is a place for me and my cousins to come each day where there are always different and fun things to do. That always makes us feel happy” Yesica shares with a smile.

Junior C., 13, has been a Club member for three years and is now a member of the teen program where he enjoys starting the day off with fun challenges, riddles and brain teasers. Junior takes advantage of all that the Teen Program has to offer, including late-nights playing basketball in the gym with friends, fun off-site field trips, sporting events, and an active participant of the Mentoring Matters program where he spends time and share the same interests with his mentor. Junior feels that participating in this program has helped him grow and mature. Junior shares “I am very grateful for group leader Mr. Anton (Seaman). Anton has always been nice to me since I first started coming to the Club. I look up to him – not just because he is very tall, but because he reminds me of Superman.”
