Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club October Youth of the Month

Robbie and Brandon, two outstanding members were selected to receive this well-deserved title fostering their character, personal growth and leadership qualities.

Robbie M., 6, is a first grader attending Gribbin Elementary School. Even though this is only Robbie’s first year attending the Club, he has enthusiastically dived into his favorite programs and activities including playing soccer in the gym, getting creative with LEGOs in the Learning Center, and challenging his mind in the Computer Lab, and making new friends along the way. Robbie quickly and effortlessly formed a connection with Group Leader Ms. Kimberly (Medina) who helps him daily with his homework, stating “I loved her the first time I met her! She makes me happy every day.” When asked about his overall Club experience, Robbie shared that his favorite Club memory was of his first day as a new member. “My first day at the Club made me feel very super happy to be here!”

Brandon R., 15, has been a Club member for the past two years, and looks back most fondly on all of the field trips he has had the opportunity to participate in through the Teen Program, including sporting events like baseball and ice hockey. “I liked being able to go to a Mets game this year,” shared Brandon, who genuinely appreciated this experience. “I think of myself as a very open-minded person, and coming to the Club each day has opened my mind and my perspectives in general even greater.” Brandon participates in a weekly College Champions program with other high school students, allowing him to gain even more perspective and insight into other Club members, staff and mentors while learning about the college admissions process.
