Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club October Youth of the Month
Richard O. and Jason M. have been named Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month for October.

Richard O., 14, is in the 9th grade at Glen Cove High School. He’s not quite sure what career path he wants to pursue yet but he is very interested in Global History. He has been a member of the Club for two years and is very excited about the new teen center and its location. “I
like where the teen center is now. We have direct access to the gym,” said Richard, who enjoys sports and is planning on joining the JV basketball team at school as well as the football team next year. He is involved in the Club’s Healthy Habits program, emphasizing good nutrition, regular physical activity and the Boys Club program, reinforcing character, leadership and positive behavior. He is looking forward to enrolling in the Club’s Summer Youth Employment workshops and volunteering in the Club’s Summer program. “I’m really looking forward to working with the younger kids. I have a special bond with the kids and they are already calling me Mr. Richard.” He considers the Club to be a very special place for him. “The Club is like an extravagance for
me. It’s fun place to hang out with your friends and have a great time.The staff is great too. I’ve know them for a long time and it just feels like we are all family here.”
Jason M., 8, is in the 3rd grade at Connolly Elementary School. He loves math, science and reading his favorite book series is Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He also has a passion for soccer and can often be found playing during his free time at the Club or at school. He has been a member of the Club for four years and enjoys participating in activities that take place in the Technology Lab, the Learning Center and the Gymnasium. Jason, who attends the Club daily, has a very special bond with Group Leader, Mr. Jahrae O'Neill. “Mr. Jahrae is my friend, he helps with my homework and plays cards with me,” said Jason, who also has made many friends in his group. “The Club feels like home to me,” he added while pointing out his favorite attribute of the Club is the high ceilings because if gives him the feeling of more space.
