Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Participates in National Good Neighbor Day

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Clubs youth and teen leadership groups teamed up to participate in National Good Neighbor Day.

National Good Neighbor Day was established in 1978, to recognize the importance of good neighbors and serves as a day of gratitude and community building. In the days leading up to National Good Neighbor Day, Club members and staff worked together to form the “BE GREAT BRIGADE.” The group’s mission was sweet and simple – to celebrate and appreciate our neighbors.

Members and staff worked together as they baked and added their personal touches to the decorated cakes. These sweet treats were hand delivered to neighboring organizations and businesses which lead to an educational adventure and the opportunity to see some behind the scenes operations. Their stops included: Martino Auto Concepts, Elegant Affairs Caterers, Melillo Center for Mental Health, Glen Cove School District Administration building, Glen Cove Police Department, Glen Cove Public Library, School for Language & Communication Development, and Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department. The group looks forward to expanding their visits next September and their relationships throughout the school year.

The Club instills in members important values to promote good character and citizenship. “Participating in National Good Neighbor Day was an experience where Club members were proactive in building a sense of community and belonging through acts of kindness,” says Desirae O’Neill, Associate Director. Club members were enthusiastic, actively engaged and truly enjoyed the opportunity to recognize friends of their Club.

“This year, were happy to celebrate this day to say thank you to our neighbors who are making a difference in our community,” says Executive Director, Franca Trunzo. “This was a great day to recognize the ways neighbors support one another. We look forward to inspiring our members and others to do the same throughout the year.”
